Mayor and Council Candidates Support the Western RiverWalk & Price’s Landing

Over the past few weeks, we’ve reached out to our Cincinnati mayoral and city council candidates to ask them about their thoughts on our group’s mission. We requested a quote or comment on the topic of the WesternRiverwalk and/or the Price’s Landing Park in Lower Price Hill.

Our objectives require a lot of cooperation and support from our local political leaders. We’ve heard back from some familiar names… and some new supporters. The responses we got were unanimously positive! Here is what they had to say… (click on a face to scroll to their comments!)

“I fully support the vision for Western Riverwalk and Price’s Landing, and have been working with west side activists behind the scenes to advance both projects. My entertainment district legislation enabled the Incline Public House to save about $30,000 on a liquor license and therefore, get off to a great start.  The CED is a huge attraction for the theatre project to be built across the street as well as for buildings along Price Avenue.

As for Western Riverwalk, I’m a vocal advocate for putting bike trails and bike paths everywhere we can get them in our city, and connecting them to key destinations.   I’m championing the Wasson Way Bike Trail on the east side of town, and look forward to helping advance Western Riverwalk too.

My vision is a Cincinnati that’s “Cleaner, Greener & Smarter.”

“Increasing the livability of all of our western neighborhoods is key to Cincinnati’s resurgence. Our City always needs greater options for families and young people to explore the outdoors in healthy and active ways.  The Western RiverWalk and Price’s Landing initiatives do just that.  These projects, along with the continuation of the Ohio River Trail to Sayler Park will create be attractions bringing people (and their money) from around the region into our Westside.”

“The West Side Summit/Riverwalk Working Group advocates for some of the most historic and beautiful neighborhoods in our entire City. I value this conversation and the work they do so much, including the discussion of a hike/bike trail. I can’t wait to continue this dialogue to make our community a better place to live, work and play.”

“Many times opportunities for West Side recreation are overlooked. We need to continue the city’s investment in the Ohio River Way recreation and park development. I am a huge supporter of opportunities that provide access to recreation for all our citizens- and these investments do just that.”

“For the last 20 years I have been an active member of EPHIA (East Price Hill Improvement Association).  Three years ago I rewrote the bylaws and platform for the East Price Hill Business Alliance which I currently am President. I also am a member of the Queensgate Business Alliance and a member of the Board for the Price Hill Will Economic Development Committee…

…with all of the work that I have done in the East Price Hill Community Entertainment District and the other economic development groups,  I have been asked on numerous occasions to speak about the economic developments happening in all the Price Hills and along the riverfront. Fortunately, I have had the pleasure of listening to and talking with Dave Zelman about the Bike/Hike Trail and Tom Croft has been an amazing asset to all of us for his efforts (he kept EPHIA posted regularly), along with ALL of you, in getting the Hilltop property re-zoned!”

“I am a huge supporter of [West Side Summit + Riverwest’s] efforts. I researched the ‘Hilltop Concrete’ site and encouraged Council not to cave in to the outside interests seeking to turn the site into a barge loading site. I look forward to the day when we on the West Side can enjoy one of Cincinnati’s greatest resources, it’s Western Riverfront.”

“I have done my research on this matter and based on the information I have found I do believe that this project could be an asset to the community. I would as an elected official be willing to work with the residents of this community to get this project up and running while ensuring that funding comes from private partnerships as well as some governmental resources. The funding situation would have to make sense based off of our current financial standing but I do see the value this would add.”

“I have long supported extending the Ohio River hike/bike trail as the economic benefit is obvious – the more attractive an area is for citizens, the more return on investment for the neighborhood.  As a volunteer at Lower Price Hill Community School, I see the benefit of bringing more Cincinnati residents to this area of town extending out to Sayler Park.  As a councilman, I will support The West Side Summit + Riverwest Working group in their initiatives including Price’s Landing & the Ohio River Way hike/bike trail.”

“As a bicyclist I strongly support dedicated trails in and through our city, particularly trails that take advantage of our beautiful riverfront. Similarly, a park such as Price’s Landing would be a tremendous asset to our community bringing more and more people into contact with the Ohio River and our wonderful river heritage and history.”
